Eelgrass Restoration Activities

March 21, 2026
Etajima Bay

At the end of March, during the daytime, we observed the seagrass on the coast near Human Beach Nagase in Etajima, where we had previously installed seagrass seeds, during low tide.

Unfortunately, no burlap sacks or similar items were found at the site where the seagrass seed planting work was carried out. However, we were able to confirm that seagrass, though in small numbers, was growing from a few meters away all the way to the tip of the cape. According to the fisheries cooperative that recommended this location, seagrass did not previously inhabit this area, and it is possible that it sprouted from seeds that drifted out of a burlap sack.

The first three images show seagrass that was identified. The fourth picture shows the view up to the cape.
